L-Valine is a kind of branched-chain amino acid (BCAA) that animals cannot synthesize by themselves. It must be obtained from the diet to meet nutritional needs, so it belongs to the essential amino acids.
As an amino acid drug and nutritional supplement, it can be used as a main component of aminophenol transfusion and to synthesize aminophenol. It is one of the three branched-chain amino acids and helps treat liver failure and central nervous system dysfunction.
The requirement for men is 10 mg/(kg·d), and the physiological effects of the L-form are twice those of the D-type. Deficiency may cause neurological disorders, blastocolysis, weight loss, anemia, and other symptoms. As a nutritional supplement, it is used to prepare aminophenol transfusions and synthesize aminophenol with other essential amino acid infusions. When added to pastry (1 g/kg), it enhances a sesame-like aroma, and when used in bread, it improves flavor.
It can also serve as a component in pharmaceutical amino acid infusions or as a food additive. In biochemical research, valine is used in the preparation of tissue culture media and as an amino acid nutritional drug in medicine.
